Do's & Don't of Skincare
Don’t: Overuse products! Consider what you're applying to your skin and what the actual benefits are.
Do: Keep it simple. Starting to listen more closely to what your skin is telling you, understand what is important in your skincare routine and learn from it what it really needs.
Don’t: Use harsh ingredients. Have you ever applied skincare products that sting or burn? You are stripping your skin of its natural oils and creating imbalance - creating a fertile ground for inflammation and skin issues to manifest.
Do: Use gentle and super hydrating ingredients that will protect your microbiome and not cause damage to your skin barrier.
Don’t: Don’t forget that what we put inside of our bodies is as important as what we put on the outside. It is important to eat foods which are considered “prebiotics”. These assist our digestive system in creating enzymes and absorbing the nutrients we need to be healthy.
Do: When you can't fit in probiotic-rich foods into your diet, taking a supplement is the best way to ensure you are giving your gut that balance.
Don’t: Go in the sun without sunscreen. The skin is one the most exposed organs of our body, which provides a physical defense from the external environment including the Sun. The sun is an aggressor to our Skin’s Microbiome - while we love it - it loves to interrupt the skin’s delicate homeostasis. When our skin microbiome is knocked out of balance than that is when we see those negative side effects.
Do: Use sunscreen. Sunscreen is an important preventive health care habit that should be maintained all year, however sunscreen at times can “overload our skin” and not allow our skin barrier to perform its natural function. It’s extremely important how we take care of our skin after sun exposure and product layering. Be mindful of cleaning your skin thoroughly and gently, and restoring the good bacteria with probiotics and prebiotic so that it can feel healthy again.
